Dead Fish Found After Pond Mouth Left Closed; Locals Take Action
ST. MARTIN — A strong odor and dozens of dead fish were discovered today at a local pond after its mouth remained closed, cutting off the natural connection to the sea.
Earlier this week, a concerned resident alerted Ghetto News that the pond mouth needed to be opened to allow fish to return to the sea and regain oxygen. An alert was shared publicly, but no response or action was taken by government authorities.
When reporters and residents visited the site today, they found significant fish die-off and worsening conditions. The smell from the decomposing fish was overwhelming, raising concerns about public health and environmental damage.
A group of local residents later arrived with shovels and manually opened the pond mouth. Shortly after, fish were seen swimming back out to sea, confirming that lack of water flow and oxygen was a major factor in the die-off.
Residents are now questioning why earlier warnings were ignored and are calling for faster response and proper maintenance of ponds to prevent future losses.
